An Adventure with Candace
Sunday, October 15
I decided to get dressed up for the event. I was hoping the weather would be warm (it wasn't) so I went for something sheer and sexy. I wanted to fit in.
This was a crazy trip because I had to do everything in one day. I had no vacation days left (I used my days helping my mother) so I had to fly to LA cover the Red Carpet and fly back. I woke up at 4 a.m. did my hair and put on comfortable clothes. I made it to the airport with an hour to spare only to find I didn't have a seat. This mean man I'll call Donahue jumped in front of me and took my spot. A couple a head of me were going to leave out of Kennedy and I was stuck.
I remained calm because I trusted that God had a plan for me and He wanted me to cover the show. The lady behind the desk got me on the next flight from Newark and upgraded me to first class. I also got a free ticket that I had to use within a year.
First class totally rocks. I had never traveled in first class and I and determined it won't be my last. The service was wonderful and the food delicious. I felt like a Queen.
Thank God I had done my research so I knew which bus to take to get to the show. I managed to the Wiltern Theatre at 2:45. Media check in was at 4 p.m. I went to a hotel, had some tea and then changed into my dress. It was cold in LA but I didn't care because I was covering the show.
I can't believe I am in Los Angeles California at the Wiltern Theatre covering the Black Filmmakers awards. I found out I had a press pass on Tuesday and it was a scramble to get a plane reservation. After I accomplished that I worried about what I would wear. I had never covered the REd Carpet at a major award show. I hope the media in California would be nice to me.(They were. :))
The stars all looked great. My top pick for women was Melinda Williams of Soul Food. She had on a vintage gold gown. She looked so glassy. She wasn't like the majority of the women who showed their breasts and wore the shortest skirts.
Shemar, Shemar Shemar He looked so totally gorgeous. The silver screen doesn't do him justice; He looks even better in person ladies. His skin is the smoothest caramel and his hair is slinky black. And that smile ....was both warm and mischievious. Shemar is the man. He wore a tailored suit that hugs his firm body in all the right places.

In addition to Shemar and Melinda screen legends Billy Dee Williams, Ruby Dee and Black Filmmakers Awards honoree Cicely Tyson. The cute little girl who played Fantasia in the Lifetime story Life Is Not a Fairy Tale walked the Red Carpet.
Radio One owner Catherine Hughes and Suzanne De Passe posed together. Producer Ruben Cannon looked dashing in his tuxedo. Tyler Perry looked very cute in jeans (no he was not dressed liked Madea). He is huge. Tyler towers over everyone but he seems to be a gentle giant who loves to laugh and smile.
Kimberly Elise walked with quiet elegance and posed with Ruby Dee on the Red Carpet.
I can't tell you how happy I was to be at the show. I thanked God for his blessings.
